Monticello running back Omar Simpson carries the ball against White Hall in the Hooten’s season kickoff game at UAPB.

Hamburg and McGehee were both scoreless until shortly before the half when Hamburg kicked a field goal giving the Lions a 3-0 halftime lead in the Hooten’s kickoff  doubleheader Tuesday night at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s Golden Lion Stadium. Hamburg scored twice more in the fourth quarter on a 59-yard run and a 2-yard run. The PATs were no good. Hamburg defeated McGehee 15-0.

In the second game, Monticello defensive back Jalen Handley’s interception set up a 12-yard touchdown run by Monticello running back Omar Simpson giving Monticello a 7-0 lead over White Hall at the end of the first quarter. But the Billies would not score again until late in the fourth quarter. Monticello fell to White Hall 36-14.
