Hamburg officially kicks off the Christmas season this afternoon with a number of activities on the town square, including Mayor Dane Weindorf’s reading of The Christmas Story and the Little Red Wagon Parade. The annual Christmas Parade begins at 6 p.m.

The Christmas festivities begin on the town square shortly after 4 p.m. when the mayor reads The Christmas Story. The Little Red Wagon Parade, featuring small children in decorated red wagons, begins after the reading of  The Christmas Story. Other activities on the square include a choral performance, a handbell performance, and a play by area children.

The man and woman of the year, Freddie Martin and Velma Farmer, will serve as grand marshals of the Christmas Parade which begins at the fairgrounds moves on to the town square and ends on U.S. 425 in the Fred’s parking lot.
