The family and friends of the late Hank Thompson, Sr. are sponsoring a trail ride and a full day of activities in Monticello on April 7 to benefit the Hank Thompson Scholarship Fund. Thompson, of Monticello, played baseball at the University of Arkansas in 1976, 1977 and 1978. He was one of the first two African Americans to suit up for the Razorbacks on the diamond.
The event will be held at 785 Florence Road with gates opening at 11 a.m. and the horse ride beginning at 1 p.m. The entry fee is $3. Children aged 12 and under will be admitted free. Sponsors encourage attendees to bring their horses, ATVs, UTVs and lawn chairs for a full day of fun which includes trail rides, music and a dance contest. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Horse clubs and motorcycle clubs are welcome. Sponsors are the Thompson family, T-Man Productions and Getting Down ‘N Dirty Riders.
