Harvey M. McGehee, Jr., 92, of Star City, died on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary.
He was born on November 14, 1924 in Lincoln County to the late Harvey M. and Velma Burr McGehee.
Mr. McGehee served in the United States Navy during World War II, where his ship, USS LSMR 194, was sunk at Okinawa by a kamikaze pilot. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church and a delivery man for Borden Milk. He was a lifetime member of Quapaw Lodge #730, where he was a 32nd degree Mason.
He received an honorary archaeology degree from the University of Arkansas.
Besides his parents, Mr. McGehee was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Henley.
Survivors include his wife, Verniece Harper McGehee of Star City; three daughters, Linda (J.T.) Ross of Star City, Patricia (Daniel) Dillard of Benton and Debby (David) Edney of Smackover; a brother, Bobby Lee McGehee of South Carolina; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at Holly Springs Cemetery with Bro. Elmer Byerly and Bro. Craig Henley officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Service in Star City.
