Helen Melton Murphy, 91, of Broken Arrow, Okla., formerly of Wilmot, died January 31, 2014 at the Village Health Care Center in Broken Arrow, Okla.
She was a native of Mayflower and a lifelong resident of Wilmot.
Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and a part time bookkeeper for her husband’s service station business. She was a member of Wilmot Baptist Church, where she participated in women’s Missionary Society and taught youth Sunday school classes. In her southern tradition, she could easily be remembered as a good hostess and wonderful cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jewell Murphy; a grandson, William Winfield; her parents, Sidney and Mamie Harrison Melton, two brothers, William and Ralph Melton and three sisters, Maxine House, Mamie Pogue, and Fay Rene.
Survivors include her daughter, Gwen Winfield and husband, Harry, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three great-grandsons, Braden, Connor, and Micah Winfield and their mother Karen, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held March 4 at 10 a.m. at Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will be at the Wilmot Cemetery.
