Horace Eugene High, 93 of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Bastrop, La., died Friday, May 15, 2015 at the St. Francis Health Center in Topeka. He was born June 11, 1921, in Fountain Hill, Arkansas and graduated from Fountain Hill High School May, 1940.
He was a WWII veteran and fought in the Battle of the Bulge Campaign in Europe. Upon returning from the war he graduated from Arkansas A & M College (now the University of Arkansas at Monticello) in 1954.
Mr. High taught school for 42 years, retiring in 1988 in Bastrop, La., and was a member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church in Bastrop.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Lucille Allison High; son-in-law Gary Diffley; his parents, Ed and Hattie Gifford High and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by a daughter, Judy High Diffley; a son, John Edward High and wife Elaine Richard High; a granddaughter, Allison High Clemons and grandson-in-law Gregory Ross Clemons.
Funeral services will be held May 19 at 9 a.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello. Burial will be at the Flat Creek Cemetery in Fountain Hill.
