Arkansas Speaker of the House Robert Moore, a Democrat from Arkansas City, is still weighing his options regarding his political future but has ruled out a run for U.S. Congress.
“I’m not going to run for Congress,” Moore told Seark Today Monday afternoon.
Moore, a 67-year-old lawyer, farmer, Vietnam veteran, state representative and former director of the state Alcohol Beverage Control, said he has had the opportunity to gain a great deal of experience as head of a state agency, legislator, and Speaker of the House and wants to use that experience in the best interest of the people of Arkansas.
Asked if he is considering the District 26 state Senate race in 2012, Moore said he is looking at it but hasn’t made any decisions.
The district includes Ashley, Bradley, Chicot and Drew counties and portions of Desha, Lincoln and Cleveland counties.
So far, Gregg Reep, a Democrat from Warren, is the only candidate who has announced his intentions to run for the state Senate seat.
