Ida Bea Courtney, 92, of Halley, died on September 19, 2014 at her home.
She was born October 23, 1921, in Desha County to the late Virgil Lemmitt and Bea Levingston.
Mrs. Courtney was a homemaker, mother, wife, businesswoman and educator.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Halley. In later years, she became a member of Lightwood Missionary Baptist Church in Halley where she served on the Mother’s Board and was a member of the choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Charlie Courtney and three children, Armilla Thomas, Joyce Jiles, and Brenda Courtney.
She is survived by six daughters, Myrtle Williams and Lillia Catron, both of Las Vegas, Nevada, Thelma Jones and JoAnn Wright, both of Little Rock, Jennifer (Roosevelt) King of Monticello, and Angela Courtney; two sons, Arthur Courtney of Halley and Bobby (Joan) Courtney of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held September 26 at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in Dermott. Burial will be at Bouie Cemetery at Halley.
