James Allen Sled, Sr., 77, of Crossett, passed away on July 1, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at the Stonegate Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Lake Village on May 26, 1940 and was the son of the late John Wesley, and Eva Rowell Sled.
Mr. Sled was a 1959 graduate of Crossett High School. He married his sweetheart on August 21, 1959 and began a 41 year career at Georgia Pacific where he worked as a shift engineer until he retired. His many hobbies included fishing, hunting, and playing guitar, especially sitting around making music with his friends. He was an active member of Meridian Baptist Church and loved his Lord and his family dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Sled and a sister, Maxie Sled Smith.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Betty Lou Stanley Sled; a son, James Allen Sled, Jr. “Jim”; three daughters, Kim, Jana, and Brandi Sled all of Crossett; four grandchildren, James Allen Sled, III “Jay” and wife Mallory, and Bradyn Sled, all of Crossett, and Maly and Sky Shields, both of Sahuarita, Arizona; and two great-grandchildren, Jaycie and Maycie Sled of Crossett.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, July 4 at 10 a.m. at Meridian Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Massey officiating. Interment will be at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 3 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the church.
