James David “Pete” Clifton, 70, of Monticello, departed this life on October 13, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 14, 1951, in Wilmar, Arkansas to his father, James (Eupharzine) Clifton, and mother, Dorothy Carter.
Mr. Clifton is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy Clifton. They were married in Monticello on June 25, 1977.
He was a graduate of Drew High School before he began his career working as a logger for LD Long Inc and Ralph Hunter until his retirement in 2019.
Mr. Clifton enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved to fish with his wife Peggy and his parents James and Eupharzine Clifton and loved to farm and grow vegetables for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his stepbrother Wallace Clifton and stepsister Emma Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Peggy Clifton of Monticello; one son, Derrick Clifton of Monticello; one daughter, Essica Clifton of North Little Rock; two grandchildren, Dasha and Destiny Clifton of Monticello; one sister Bertha (Sonny) Harrison of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; five stepbrothers, LaBryant Johnson and Bradford (Rosetta) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Ray (Lois) Johnson of Dallas, Texas, Howard (Vivian) Johnson of St. Paul, Minnesota, and (Tiffany) Johnson of Spartanburg, South Carolina; one stepsister,
Renee Johnson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; brother-in-law Willis (Kim) Hokes of Monticello; special aunt, Ollie Mae Gragg of Cornerville, and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 22, from 5p.m. until 7 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Home in Monticello. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 23, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Union Ridge Cemetery in Drew County.
