James Hollis Moncrief, 87, of Dumas passed away on April 18, 2019.
He was born on February 28, 1932 near Vilonia and was the son of the late, Alvin and Alta Mobbs Moncrief.
His parents, four brothers, J.T., Donald Lee, Denny and Vanell Moncrief; and one sister, Mary New all preceded him in death.
Mr. Moncrief worked at several nuclear plants in various states as a union pipefitter and retired after 25 years. He also built numerous golf courses in California. He traveled in his RV to all 48 contiguous states, visited most of the national parks and several museums. He also loved farming, gardening and recycled an old cotton wagon into a 12’X28’ floating dock to be used at his Arkansas River home. He was Baptist and a member of the pipefitters union in Fresno, California. He served in the Arkansas Army National Guard.
Survivors are his wife, Joni Moncrief of Dumas; a son, Chris Moncrief of Tyro; two daughters, Penny Lay of Tyro and Brenda Goggans of Rohwer; one brother, Billy Moncrief of Dumas; two sisters, Jo Ann Henley and Becky Wynn of Star City; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and two stepsons, Wade and Wyatt Ward of Pemberville, Ohio.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 22 at Griffin Funeral Home in Dumas. Rev. Dubs Byers will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Watson Cemetery in Watson.
