James N. Burns, 78, of Fountain Hill, died May 16, 2014 at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett.
Mr. Burns was a native of Hector and a resident of Fountain Hill for the past 40 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and he owned and operated Burns Texaco in Fountain Hill for 10 years. He also worked for Ashley County and retired in 1998. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen H. Shaver Burns in 2011; a step-son, Clarence Shaver in 2008 and his parents, R.Q. and Idell Collins Burns.
He is survived by three step-sons, Bobby Shaver and wife, Joni, of Collinston, La., Jimmy Shaver and wife, Pearly, of Fountain Hill and Tommy Shaver and wife, Mary, of Crossett; two brothers, Denver Burns of Portland and Robert “Booster” Burns and wife, Mary Jo, of Parkdale; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held May 19 at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Townsend officiating. Burial will be at the Eden Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Orby Shaver, Billy Shaver, Joe Shaver, Drew Shaver, Bo Shaver, Shannon Shaver, Chris Shaver, Cole Shaver and Jeff Amos.
