James W. Osburn, 71, of Vick, died on Monday, January 23, 2017 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House.

He was born on March 2, 1945 in Newport and was the son of the late Elias Osburn and Geneva Massey Osburn.

Mr. Osburn was retired from the Arkansas State Medical Examiner Office and was a retired Bradley County Deputy Sheriff He was a member of the Eagle Lake Crossroads Baptist Church near Vick, and a Vietnam War veteran who served in the United States Marine Corp.

In his earlier years, Mr. Osburn worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 690 in Little Rock where he served as a shop steward.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Jones Osburn whom he married July 17, 2010; a son, James William Osburn, Jr. and wife Kathy of Jackson, Mississippi; a daughter, April Barnes of Benton; three brothers, Wayne Osburn and wife Nancy of Hampton, Virginia, Charles Osburn and wife Suzanna of Bigelow, Kenneth Osburn and wife Debbie of Morrow, Ohio; five sisters, Vera Williams of Snow Camp, North Carolina, LaNell Bennett of Grandview, Texas, Jean Anselmi, Naples, Florida, Louise Rose and husband Wayne of Heber Springs, and Sandra Gates of Newport; three grandchildren, Rebecca Osburn of Mississippi, Jimmy Osburn of Florida, and Jackson Barnes of Benton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 26 at Frazer’s Funeral Home with Rev. Wally Ferguson, Rev. Billy Reed and Richard Pope officiating.

Pallbearers are Monty Hearnsburger, John Lamb, Herschel Tillman, Rick Anders and Butch Belin.
