Coach Jamie Raper, 84, of Warren died on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Little Rock.

He was born on August 2, 1932 at Smackover and was the son of the late Homer Raper and Mamie Ruth Martin Raper.

He received his education in the Smackover Public School System and was a graduate of Henderson State Teachers College. He served in the U. S. Army and was a retired colonel in the Arkansas National Guard.

Coach Raper was an assistant coach for the Warren Lumberjacks under head coach Mickey O’Quinn before he was named head coach in 1964. He retired in 1969. He was a Baptist.

He married Mary Helen Williams on May 31, 1964 at Warren. She died July 6, 2006.

Survivors include a son, Matt Raper and wife, Carrie of Warren; a daughter, Amanda Gladden of Warren; four grandchildren, Zachery Raper, Caleb Raper, Ana Raper and Mary Faith Owens; and a great grandchild, Alexxis Latiker.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on January 23, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Reuel Cruce and Robert Dew officiating. Burial will be at Garrison Cemetery with a flag presentation ceremony.

Pallbearers are Roger George, Ed Lain, Marion Glover, Bill Wisener, Tyler Rodgers, Ranner Rodgers and Ronnie Higgins. Honorary pallbearers are all fomer Lumberjacks and friends.
