Jay R. Manes, 91, of Monticello, formerly of Dumas, passed away on January 27, 2019.
Mr. Manes, the eleventh of 14 children born to George Washington Asberry-Manes and Kizzy Runnells Manes, was born in Collinsville, Oklahoma on June 22, 1927.
He was a retired farmer, described by his family as free-hearted and loving. Always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. He loved to play dominos, card games and the harmonica.
On September 9, 1946 Mr. Manes married Febbie Jane Burnett of Yell County. He was a member of the Old Union Baptist Church at Florence, Arkansas. In his later years he rededicated his life to Christ.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Manes was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, five brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include three sons, James Manes and wife Barbara of Monticello, Bobby Manes and wife Sharon of Dumas, and Wesley Manes of Monticello. Other survivors include nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 31 from 1-2 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Home in Dumas, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Monty Meeks will officiate. Burial will be at Walnut Lake Cemetery.
