Jeffery Pierce Wilkerson, 71, of Star City, passed away on December 8, 2020 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 23, 1949 in Pine Bluff to Jeff “JD” Davis and Clarice “TC” Groce Wilkerson.
Mr. Wilkerson was a graduate of Star City High School and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He retired after 33 years from Star City High School where he coached track, football and girls’ basketball and taught physical education, biology and chemistry.
After retirement, he enjoyed working at his deer camp, fishing and growing his garden. But his most treasured past time was spending time with his grandsons, whether it be fishing, hunting or his favorite, going to watch them play baseball and basketball.
He was an active member of Star City First Assembly and served in many capacities over the years.
Everywhere Mr. Wilkerson went, he never met a stranger. He always had a handshake, a huge smile and a big hug. To the kids at church, he became the one with the peppermint; they knew in order to get a piece of candy, they had to give him a hug, which he loved. His laugh was infectious, which will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents, Jim and Callie Wilkerson and Felix and Christa Bell Groce.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Tonya; his children, Bracy and wife, Jennifer of Star City, and Blair and husband, Scotty of Hot Springs; and the pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren, Austin, Adalynn and Greenlee, Zac, Zane, Zoey and Zaylee. Other survivors include his sisters, Pam (Jim) Haley of Star City and Donna (Don) Woolsey of Angel Fire, New Mexico.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 12 at 2 p.m. at the Rock Springs Cemetery, 819 Rock Springs Road. in Wilmar with Bro. Greg Tucker and Bro. Justin Holt officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
Pallbearers are Austin “Rooster” Wilkerson, Zac “Scooter” Pennington, Zane “Chug” Pennington, Merwin Fowler, Scotty Pennington, and Taylor Grayson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Connect Bank, C/O Star City Bulldog Foundation, PO Box 69, Star City, AR 71667 or the Star City First Assembly of God Building Fund, 306 S. Jefferson St., Star City, AR 71667.
