Jenny L. James Smith, 88, of Monticello, passed away on January 9, 2020 at her home.
She was born on August 27, 1931 in El Dorado to the late Henry L. James and Lola Hammon James.
Mrs. Smith was a retired school teacher who taught business math, general record keeping and typing at Monticello High School and was a Methodist. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1949 as Salutatorian and received her BSE from Arkansas A&M College (now UAM) graduating Magna Cum Laude.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother, retired master sergeant John H. James.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Coy Smith of Monticello; two sons, Dr. Kirby Smith and wife Charlotte “Charlie” of Sherwood and Dane Smith and wife Deana of Monticello; two daughters, Kay Smith Qualls of Monticello and Sabrina Smith Davis and husband Rex of Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Jada, Blake, Ashley, Aaron, Kendall, Holden, Hanna and Luke; and nine great-grandchildren, Race, Bristol, Katherine Grace, Kaiden, Brayleigh, Aurora, Aubrey, Elijah and Jaxen.
Visitation is Saturday, January 11 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello. A graveside service will be held Sunday, January 12, at 2 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Mike Qualls officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s.
