Jerry Dean Thompson, 57, of Star City passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 17, 2017, after battling ALS for three years.

He was born November 1, 1959 at Dr. Petty’s office in Star City and was the son of the late Garvin L. Thompson and Louise Drake Thompson.

Mr. Thompson received a GED and a Precision Alignment Certificate at ASU. He worked at National Wire. He was self-employed at Circle T Farm, and last worked at Southern Specialty. He was a member of Pine Hill Hunting Club. Jerry Dean was a member of and baptized at Pine Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Star City.

He was an intelligent, loving and hardworking man. He enjoyed working on race trucks, cooking, hunting and spending time with family. There was nothing he couldn’t weld, fix or build with his own two hands. He was a loving husband, father and extremely proud grandfather. He will be missed dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Garvin L. Thompson.

Survivors include his mother, Louise Drake Thompson; wife, Cindy Yarbrough Thompson; son, Jeremy Dean (Cassie) Thompson; daughter, Sunny Jo Thompson Harrison; stepson, Todd (Julie) Socia; stepdaughter, Paige (Jason) Barnes and stepson, Ryan (Brittney) Socia; brothers, Gary Lynn (Linda Kay) Thompson and Terry Glen (Carol) Thompson; 2 granddaughters, Kallie Anne and Kamryn Clare Thompson; grandson, Fisher Thompson Harrison; 11 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 20 at Drake Cemetery with Bro. Don Borland officiating.

Visitation is Saturday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Service in Star City.
