Jerry Wayne Bates, 75, of Star City, passed away March 13, 2022 at his home.
He was born December 31, 1946 in Pine Bluff to the late Jessie Thomas and Mary Geneva Reed Bates.
Mr. Bates was a member of Holly Springs Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from International Paper and Evergreen Papermill after 42 years. He previously worked for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department for six years, the Star City Police Department for 12 years and was a Lincoln County Constable. He loved to camp and travel.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Allen Bates; a grandson, Paul Wayne Bates; and a brother, Tommy Lynn Bates.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Cook Bates of Star City; three sons, Dewayne (Cathy) Bates of Star City, Tim (Callie) Bates of Hot Springs, and Jeff (Cloyce) Bates of Harrison; brother, Roger (Marilyn) Bates of Star City; six grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Tidwell, Destiny Ann Massey, Brayden Bates, Lucas Aaron Massey, Derek Bates, and Jacob Tyler Bates; and two great-grandchildren, Jase Carter Tidwell and Hudson Cole Tidwell.
Funeral services will be held AM Wednesday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at Griffin Funeral Chapel with Bro. Steve Cook and Bro. Jarrod Pettit officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 15, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Holly Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Brian Pickens, Aaron Cochrane, Kevin Kirk, Ben Reeves, Kenneth Keough, and Steve Young.
