Jimmy Wayne Bowen, 84, of McGehee, passed away on October 26, 2018.
He was born on October 12, 1934 to the late Jim Walter and Maude (Reeves) Bowen of Humphrey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Sterling, A.J., Elbert “Pete”, Richard, and Bill; four sisters, infant Maudeen Bowen, Lucille Young, Maxine Bayless, and Jo Bowen.
Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Mary Lea Hanna Whitaker Bowen; five daughters, Cathy Bowen Burns (Randy), Anita Bowen, Carla Bowen Ziesmer, Becky Ellington Barnard (Jerry) and Trisha Whitaker Bates (Darwin); and a son Greg Whitaker (Laura), eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bowen was better known as “Pap” to a host of parents and children that attended Pap & Mimmie’s Day Care in McGehee. Each one was special and dearly loved.
For the last six years Mr. Bowen attended Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Lake Village. He loved music and enjoyed singing specials. He was an avid trapper, hunter and fisherman and always enjoyed the outdoors. He was employed in farm management.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 29 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. with funeral services following at 12 p.m. at Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Lake Village. Bro. Phillip Payne will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake Village under the direction of Bishop-King Funeral Home of Lake Village.
