Joanne Borland

Joanne Borland, 84, of Star City, passed away on April 18, 2019 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.

She was born in Lincoln County on September 13, 1934 to the late E.A. “Jack” and Clara Meeks Harris.

Mrs. Borland was a 1952 graduate of Star City High School where she was valedictorian and point guard on the basketball team. She later attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri.

She worked at C&L Electric company for 47 years at multiple positions, retiring as executive assistant to the general manager. She also served as a board member of Star City School District.

Mrs. Borland was member of Overcoming Faith Worship Center in Star City. She loved her church family, especially teaching her children’s Sunday school class. She was adored by her family and lovingly known as “Memaw” to her grandchildren and “JoJo” to her nephews, nieces, and many other extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Dr. Russell Harris, Dr. Ramon Harris, and Dr. Wayne Harris.

Survivors include her loving husband, Don Borland of Star City; one son, Steve Borland and wife Shannon of Springdale; one daughter, Beverly Brown of White Hall; two sisters, Geraldine Jenkins and husband Temon of Glenrose, and Billie Weast and husband Kenneth of Star City; six grandchildren, Kayleigh O’Brien and husband David, Abby Borland, Ryleigh Borland, Zoey Borland, Joshua Brown and Bethany Brown; and two great grandchildren, Blakely Rose Burchett, and Caroline O’Brien.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, at Griffin Funeral Service in Star City. Rev. Steve Borland and Rev. Dwayne Roper will officiate. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00pm Monday, April 22, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Brown, Tim Jenkins, Howie Mitchell, David O’Brien, Ben Harrington, James Reeves, Nicky Austin, and David Gober. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Overcoming Faith Worship Center.
