John C. “Petey” Emerson, Sr., 70, of Lake Village, died on September 9, 2017 at his home in Lake Village.
Mr. Emerson was born January 20, 1947, in Lake Village, and was the son of the late Buell James Emerson and Beulah Imagene Byrd Emerson. He was the shop foreman for W.B. Loyd for many years before becoming the pastor for Colorado Baptist Church in Greenville, Mississippi. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid gardener who sold produce at the local farmers market every year.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Faye Emerson; a son, John Pete Emerson, Jr. ; a daughter, Sandra Faye Emerson; two brothers, Jimmy and Michael Emerson; and two sisters, Bobbye Billings and Ann Warren.
Survivors are his wife, Tammy Stancill Emerson of Lake Village; a daughter, Connie Emerson Fuller and husband, Michael, of Pioneer, Louisiana; a brother, Buddy Emerson, Sr. and wife, Bertha, of Lake Village; three sisters, Gerri Cottman of Monticello, Marianne Morgan and husband, Larry, of Lake Village, and Brenda Spencer and husband, Chris, of Yukon, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Austin Gregory, Rachel Emerson, Tyler Fuller, Jared Fuller, Shelby Fuller, and Brighton Fuller; four great-grandchildren, Isaac Emerson, Anastasia Emerson, Skylar Fuller and Kinsley Fuller; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held Bishop-King Funeral Home in Lake Village on Wednesday, September 13 from noon until 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. with Bro. Phillip Payne officiating.
