John Paul Jones, 89, of Monticello, died November 11, 2013 at Drew Memorial Hospital.
Born June 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Johnnie Jones and Ida Lee Ridgell Jones.
Mr.Jones was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. He confessed his life and hope in Christ at an early age where he joined Green Mount AME Church and later moved his membership to Mt. Zion AME Church.
Mr. Jones fathered one daughter, Floree Jones by the late Mary Christian.
He later married the late Velma Collins Jones. To this union, eight children were born, Paul, Sidney, Fredrick, Carol, Bennie, Billy, Bobby and Edward. Paul, Sidney, Fredrick, Carol and Bennie preceded him in death.
Later, he married Vernal Greenberry Jones, who also preceded him in death. To this union, five children were born, Andrew, Gennie, Carolyn, Tracey and Lynn. Tracey and Lynn preceded him in death.
His last child was Keisha.
He had two, brothers, Americah Jones of California and I. V. Jones who preceded him in death.
He also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Stephenson Dearman Funeral Home on November 16 at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Mt. Zion AME Cemetery on Florence Road in Drew County.
