John Thompson Tipps, 70, of Dermott, passed away on January 24, 2016 at Little Rock.
He was born on July 18, 1945 in Dermott and was the son of the late Jessie Clinton and Opal Sue Akins Tipps.
Johnny was a 1963 graduate of Dermott High School and a graduate of University of Arkansas at Monticello. He served in the United States Military Navy and worked in the LP Gas business for 40 years. He enjoyed gardening and his specialty was growing tomatoes. Johnny also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. He volunteered with Delta Baptist Association and Disaster Relief Team and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He loved to sing in the choir and he is now singing in the Heavenly choir.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Geneva Herring Tipps of Dermott; brothers, Clinton L. Tipps and his wife, Pearlene of Lake Village and Larry Tipps and his wife, Gay of Portland; a sister, Nan Price of Camden and numerous nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation is January 28 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Dermott. followed by funeral services at 2 pm. with Revs. Bobby Franklin and Jody Gannaway officiating. Burial will be at Dermott Cemetery.
