Joseph Lee Patoka, 96, of Star City passed away on July 25, 2017 in Dumas.

He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Patoka and his family settled in Dumas where he was very active in the community. He was a founding member of the Dumas American Legion and its past commander. He was also a very successful entrepreneur involved in many business ventures.

Mr. Patoka and his family moved to Star City in the 1970s where he continued his business endeavors and public service. He rebuilt and helped restart the V.F.W. Post in Star City and was a member of the American Legion. He was a loyal employee of the city where he was project coordinator of several improvement projects. He was loved by everyone he met and known to all as “Mr. Joe”.

Mr. Patoka was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Wells Patoka, and a daughter, Connie Patoka Backus.

Survivors include two sons, Joel (Jenny) Patoka of Mountain Home, Randy (Jean) Patoka of Dumas; seven grandchildren, Steven Backus, Misty Walthall, Kyle Patoka, Matthew Patoka, Adrain Patoka, Michael Patoka, Jordan Patoka;and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Griffin Funeral Service of Star City.
