Joshua Charles Martin, 25, of Monticello, died on February 27, 2018 at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
He was born on March 26, 1992 in Monticello to Willie James Stanley and Bridgette Martin-Freeman.
He was a 2010 graduate of Monticello High School. He was a lover of football, especially the Green Bay Packers, but, most of all, was also a lover of Jesus. He had an infectious smile and left an unforgettable impression on everyone he met.
Joshua was a former employee of Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello. Funeral service was his passion.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Charlie Jones and Charles Stanley; great grandfather, Willie Jones; great grandmothers, Emma Jones, Ernestine Stanley and Pierce Martin; grandmother, Iona Turner; a cousin, D’Angelo Martin; and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins.
Joshua leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Bridgette Freeman; his stepfather, Gary Freeman who he loved dearly; his father, Willie Stanley, Sr.; four brothers, Aaron Martin, Willie Stanley, Jr., Derrell Freeman and Jermell Freeman; four sisters, Genesis Freeman, Nisha Stanley, Kaprina Freeman and Breauna Freeman; seven nieces, one nephew, and a host of cousins, aunts and uncles. Also surviving is a very special friend, LaRonda Gossitt (Austyn James Mooney); a grandmother, Effie Dean McGary; and a special grandmother, Ruby Miller.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3, at 2 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel in Monticello with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery.
