Kim Guthrie will make a return visit to the Mississippi Delta with her whimsical art for a one-day art show at the Guachoya Cultural Art Center in Lake Village on June 14.
The show is from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
“I am excited to being able to come back to the Delta,” Guthrie said. “I made some great friends there and met a lot of people that helped to inspire me and grow as an artist.”
Guthrie held a one woman art show at Guachoya in November 2012 and was a regular at the art center’s Christmas Marketplace. She debuted her three dimensional pieces in the show titled “Paper or Plastic” in 2011 at the former Hob Nob in Leland and at her solo art show “Make Art Not War” at the EE Bass Cultural Arts Center in 2012. She welcomes this return to show her newest creations.
“I learned a few different techniques since I left here two years ago,” Guthrie said. “I hope everyone will enjoy my new creations.”
In addition to her usual whimsical creations of paper mache’ and oil paintings, Guthrie is using new techniques that bring vivid colors to animals and everyday scenes. Her latest ventures include unique wearable art and custom portraiture.
“I love to create using different mediums,” Guthrie said. “It keeps my creative energy flowing and allows my imagination to run wild.”
Guthrie is a classically trained artist at the Cleveland Institute of art in Lacoste, France and gained her acclaim in the Pine Belt of Mississippi. She currently resides in Frontenac, Kansas.
In addition to the exhibit, magician Landon Stark will be performing and hosting a teaching workshop that day as well. The Kid’s Magic Class will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and the cost is $15.
