L.E. “Hoss” Branson, Jr., 85, of Dumas was born May 27, 1934 in Rose Creek (Perry County) Arkansas. He met his Lord on August 5, 2019 in Little Rock.
Mr. Branson was the son of the late, Lytle E. Branson, Sr and Exie Teel Branson.
He was a member of the Dark Corner Christian Church, president and member of the Dark Corner Cemetery Association Board for many years, a member of Delta Masonic Lodge #752 (32nd Degree), the Shriners and the Jesters, all of which are Christian organizations.
Mr. Branson was also the past president and member of the Lincoln County Election Commission, past president and a member of the Lincoln County Soil Conservation Board for more than 46 years. He was a member and president of the WBGB (Wells Bayou and Garrett Bridge) Water Association Board, and served in the Arkansas Army National Guard where he became a gunnery sergeant and attained the rank of master sergeant. He was a former Lincoln County constable and Lincoln County justice of the peace. He served on the Wells Bayou School Board until it merged with the Dumas School District, and was a past president of Lincoln County Farm Bureau. He was a member of Dixie Hunting Club and enjoyed hunting with his buddies.
After fifty-two years, he retired from farming as partner of Branson Brother’s Farm and Trucking Company and became an inspector for Assetts Inspections.
Mr. Branson was a man who served his country and his fellow man in any way possible.
Survivors are his wife, Juanita Clements Branson of Dumas; his son, Ricky Branson and his wife, Lisa Henry Branson of Dumas; a daughter, Beth Ann Branson Zabinski and her husband, Mark Zabinski of Rogers; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; three brothers, T.J. Branson and his wife, Tana of Rison, Edwin Branson and his wife, Jewel Branson of Dumas, and Donald Branson and his wife, Alice Branson of Dumas; a host of nieces, nephews and friends, his furry partner, Boots Branson, his dog, and special friend and caretaker, Betty Timmons.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Dark Corner Christian Church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, at 10 a.m. at Dark Corner Christian Church with Rev. Tom Bowlby officiating. Burial will be at Dark Corner Cemetery with Masonic rites by Delta Lodge #752.
