A ninth inning rally by the University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team falls just short as the Weevils drop a midweek non-conference matchup against 24th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler Tuesday.

The Weevils put the winning run on base in the bottom of the ninth, but were caught in a rundown after a wild pitch that ultimately stifled the UAM rally leaving the Weevils with the 9-7 loss.

With the loss UAM falls to 5-10 overall on the season before heading back into Great American Conference play over the weekend.

UT-Tyler jumped on UAM starting pitcher Rigel Robinson early, plating three runs in the top of the first, followed by a two-run third inning that led the Weevils to go to the bullpen.

UAM responded to the early visiting offense however, as they were able to push across one run in each of the first four innings. A pair of solo home runs by Hudson Hopkins in the second and Cade Thompson in the fourth helped the Weevils cut the deficit to 5-4.

Connor Wilkerson settled in on the mound for the Weevils holding the Patriots scoreless in the fourth and fifth before giving way to Trent Bunting to start the sixth. UT-Tyler put runners on the corners prompting another pitching change for UAM as Jared Roberts took over on the bump. The Patriots immediately struck executing a double steal to swipe home and go up 6-4.

UT-Tyler tacked on another in the seventh against Roberts before he was replaced on the mound for the eighth.

The Weevils cut into the deficit again in the bottom of the frame on a bases loaded walk drawn by Thompson. However, UAM would leave the bases loaded in the inning.

Ojani Chacon took over on the bump in the ninth when UT-Tyler struck for two more runs to push the score to 9-5.

The Weevil offense put together a tremendous effort by the Weevil offense as they cut the deficit to three on an RBI-single by Hopkins. UAM put the winning run on base after a two-out walk loaded the bases. A wild pitch allowed the Weevils to bring another run across the plate, but the runner on second got caught in a rundown on the play to end the comeback for UAM.

Despite outhitting the Patriots 13-10, the Weevils dropped the contest in heartbreaking fashion 9-7.
