Lena Mazzanti Boyd, 87, of Fayetteville, formerly of Lake Village, died on July 30, 2018 at Morningside Assisted Living in Fayetteville.
She was born on May 6, 1931 and was the daughter of the late Egino and Franchina Mazzanti.
Mrs. Boyd, who lived in Lake Village most of her life, moved to Fayetteville a few years ago to be near her daughter. She was a 1949 graduate of Lakeside High School where she played basketball and was homecoming queen. She earned her Registered Nurse degree in Little Rock at Saint Vincent’s Nursing School.
In 1953, she married Charles Phillip Boyd of Greenville. They raised their four children in Lake Village where they were members of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and attended Saint Mary’s Catholic Grammar School. Later at Lakeside High, Mrs. Boyd was the beloved school nurse. Striving to promote community awareness of mental health issues, she also served on the Delta Mental Health Board.
Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip; her son, Joel; and seven of her ten siblings.
She is survived by her son, Charles Phillip Boyd, Jr., of Little Rock; her daughters, Amy (Harvey) Smith of Fayetteville, Barbara (Ed) McLaughlin of Darien, Ct., and their children, Ben Smith, Jocelyn Smith (Francois) Cantau, James McLaughlin, Paul (Jess) McLaughlin, Frances McLaughlin; a great granddaughter, Gwen McLaughlin; and three of her brothers; Anthony (Louise) Mazzanti, Francis (Jalna) Mazzanti and Jerry (Sharon) Mazzanti.
Funeral arrangements are being made through Bishop King Funeral Home in Lake Village. There will be visitation on Thursday evening, August 2, at 4 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 5:30 pm. Father Stephen Hart will officiate the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Village at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 3.
