University of Arkansas at Monticello basketball player KJ Lesure continued his outstanding play last week in a pair of Great American Conference wins, helping him earn GAC Player of the Week honors for the third time this season.
Lesure continued his bid for being the top guard in the conference after his impressive performances in wins over Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
Lesure tallied a double-double last Thursday, registering a career-high 30 points and recording 10 rebounds. He also had six assists and a steal. Perhaps his most important contribution in the contest was his free-throw shooting. He was 13-of-15 at the charity stripe and hit several crucial ones down the stretch in UAM’s overtime win over Southwestern Oklahoma State, 98-96.
In Saturday’s 93-73 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State, Lesure surpassed his previous career-best with 32 points, six assists, a steal, and going 14-of-15 at the free-throw line.
Over Lesure’s last six games, he has put together some ridiculous numbers averaging 25 points, 6 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game. In that stretch, he is also shooting 51.3 percent from the field, 48.8 percent from downtown and 86.4 percent from the free-throw line.
He ranks among the leaders in the conference in a few categories. He is seventh in the league in points per game (18.9), second in assists per game (6.7) and 12th in free-throw percentage at 85.5.
Earning the honor with Lesure this week was fellow guard from Arkansas Tech University, RJ Glasper.
Lesure and the Weevils will get back to action on Thursday when they hit the road to play at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. following the women’s game.
