Lewis Edwin Branson

Lewis Edwin Branson, 82, of Star City, passed away on March 25, 2019 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Branson was associate pastor and former pastor at Rankin Chapel Baptist Church in Dumas and a retired maintenance and transportation supervisor and school bus driver for Dumas Schools. He was very active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the Dumas Bobcats, where he was affectionately known as “Peewee” and was the Chaplin. He was a graduate of Dumas High School.

He was born on April 15, 1936 at Carden Bottoms (Yell County) to the late John O. and Tillie Tanner Branson.

Also preceding him in death was his sister, Della Sue Branson.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 63 years, Catherine Estelle Branson of Star City; three sons, Rusty (Lynn) Branson of Benton, Corry Branson and Jeff (Tracy) Branson, all of Star City; a daughter, Cindy Branson (Keith) Whiteside, of Star City; a brother, Harold (Patsy) Branson of Watson Chapel; 12 grandchildren, Ashley Branson, Kristin Branson, Tori Branson, Josh Akers, Caleb Akers, Seth Akers, Eric Branson, Chase Harrison, Carlie Brook Harrison, Jeremy Whiteside, Stacey Turner and Chase Whiteside; 13 great-grandchildren, Aubrey Atchison, Brandy Atchison, Issac Gardner, Jack Avett Gardner, Lucy Branson, Emersyn Akers, Caroline Akers, Jay Thompson, Maddy Whiteside, Brennen Akers, Kylee Turner, Kinlee Turner, and Brooks Turner; and four nieces, Monica (Dennis) Austin, Pamela Branson, Carol Brinker and Charlene Byrd.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 28 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Home in Star City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rusty Branson, Bro. Monty Meek and Ashley Branson officiating. Burial will be at Tyro Cemetery. Pallbearers are Thomas McClellan, Dennis Austin, Chase Harrison, Eric Branson, Keith Whiteside and Seth Akers.
