The sweet season is coming and Valentine’s Day will be here soon. It’s time for the Chocolate Extravaganza, the annual fundraiser for the Monticello Branch Library. Each year, more than 100 of Drew County’s best candy makers volunteer their skills to produce thousands of pieces of handmade candy.

On Wednesday, February 13, these delicious treats will be delivered to the library where Judy Murphy’s team of cherubs will carefully package them into red-ribboned gift boxes.

Starting Wednesday, January 16, tickets can be purchased for $5 at the library.

“It’s a perfect present for your sweetheart,” says President Eulea Kiraly “and these candies are also a nice way to say thank you to a hard-working colleague or a wonderful winter pick-me-up for a friend.”

Over the years, the proceeds of this event have been used to purchase books, pay for the library’s busy internet services and assist with the exciting Summer Reading Program, which enriches the lives of so many children during the school break.

With the growing popularity of audio books, the event will also fund the purchase of more books on CDs.

On Thursday, February 14th, bring your purchased ticket to the library to collect your box of candy.  Library hours on that day are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Unclaimed candy will be resold after 4 p.m. You may not pick up your box before this day.
