A small group of Lincoln County residents turned out Thursday evening for an event at the courthouse to dedicate a “Beacon of Light” tree in memory of friends and loved ones who have passed on. The project, sponsored by the Lincoln County Extension Homemakers, calls for individuals to purchase a light for the tree to remember their loved ones.
Though the crowd for the dedication wasn’t very large. This is the first year for the event and 186 people purchased lights. “We worked hard to put these together and hope that it will grow,” said Edith Eagle, a Lincoln County Extension Homemaker. “I am very proud of the tree this year, there are about 186 lights that have been purchased on behalf of loved ones”
Also speaking at the event was Lincoln County Extension Homemaker Jane Newton and Star City Mayor and District 10 State Rep. candidate Gene Yarbrough.
“It’s events like this and the community working together that make this a great place to live,” Yarbrough said. “I am encouraged to see what the Lincoln County Extension Homemakers have put together, a tribute, a Beacon of Light for our community.”
