A Lincoln County man is being held on a $250,000 bond in connection with the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Kwame Turner whose body was discovered Friday by a county grader operator on a rural Lincoln County road between two bean fields.

Turner, who died of a gunshot wound to the head, is believed to have been shot at his home on Boston Road Thursday night then taken to Brooklyn Road east of Star City where his body was discovered shortly before noon Friday by a Lincoln County Road Department employee who was grading the road, according to Lincoln County prosecutor Phillip Green.

Justin Thornton, 21, was arrested Saturday night at a Pine Bluff hotel after police found Turner’s vehicle near a Pine Bluff apartment complex where Thornton had spent time recently.

Explaining how investigators determined that Turner was killed at his home Thursday night, rather than the road where his body was discovered Friday, Green said it was clear the crime scene was at his home and one of Turner’s neighbors reported hearing a gunshot around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

While Green has not yet filed charges in the case, Thornton is being held on probable cause for capital murder. The case is still under investigation.

The murder is the first in Lincoln County this year.
