Citing nearly four decades of law enforcement experience, training and education, Lincoln County Sheriff Larry McGee has announced his intention to seek a fifth term as sheriff.
The 57-year-old Democrat began his law enforcement career after graduating from Star City High School. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps where he attended Military Police School and was selected to serve in Marine Barracks as Presidential Security.
After completing his tour in the Marine Corps, he joined the Star City Police Department/Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and served in that position for just over five years before accepting a position with the Pine Bluff Police Department. He retired from the Pine Bluff Police Department in 2005 when he was elected sheriff of Lincoln County. He is beginning his eighth year as Lincoln County Sheriff.
While working with the Pine Bluff Police Department, McGee served seven years as the Commander of the Tri-County Drug Task Force, five years as Commander of the Major Crime Unit, four years as the Emergency Manager of the City of Pine Bluff, and five years as the Special Events Security Coordinator for the City of Pine Bluff.
He has attended Law Enforcement Specialized Schools such as the United States Drug Enforcement Narcotic School in Texas, Criminal Justice Institute in Little Rock, the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in Camden, the United States Department of Homeland Security School in Little Rock and Seattle Washington, the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff, the Alcohol Beverage Control school, the Drug Enforcement spotters school, both regular and advanced, and Missing and Exploited Children in Washington D.C.
“As a full-time, certified law enforcement officer with over thirty-seven years of experience and over 2,000 hours of specialized training, I want to continue to work for you, the people of Lincoln County,” McGee said in his campaign announcement. “I am starting my eighth year as your Sheriff and I believe that we have made a difference in the quality of life for the citizens of this county. With your support, I will continue to serve you with the same honesty, integrity and fairness for the next two years as I have the past seven. Your vote will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.”
