Lynwood Jack Hamm

Lynwood Jack Hamm, 83, of Crossett, passed away peacefully at his home on February 9, 2021.

He was born in Rayville, Louisiana, on October 19, 1938, to his parents, Lee and May Phillips Hamm and was a member of Community Chapel Baptist Church.

Jack was raised on a farm where he learned the value of hard work at an early age. He worked for Georgia Pacific in the particle board mill for 25 years, followed by several years at Williams Welding in Crossett. He and his wife, Jo, eventually established Hamm’s Hydraulics together and built a successful business taking care of their many loyal friends and customers for decades.

Jack loved to work. When not at his shop, he was tending to his cattle, bailing hay, or working in his vegetable garden, a routine that continued seven days a week on into retirement before his health declined. He also enjoyed attending farm equipment sales and watching his westerns and FOX News.

Jack was a skillful opponent when it came to dominos, rook, and phase 10, and reveled in the precious moments spent playing with his family and grandchildren.

He was flirty, headstrong, outspoken, and honest. A one-of-a-kind dad and papaw who took great pride in providing for his family who he adored.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Rosie “Jo” Hamm; four brothers, Paul, Huey, Marvin, and Hershel Hamm; and two sisters, Barbara Garner, and Marbeth Watt.

He leaves behind his wife, Joyce “Becky” Elton Hamm; three children, Belvin Hamm (Joan), Deborah Sturdivant (Donnie), and Richard Marion Hamm; and stepdaughter, Karen McGilton (Chris) all of Crossett; one sister, Jessie Burgess, and four brothers, Bill Hamm (Norma) also of Crossett, Thomas Hamm (Linda) of Start, Louisiana, Cleve Hamm of Rayville, Louisiana, and James Hamm (Sandy) of Monroe, Louisiana; along with seven grandchildren, Anna, Jacky, Chancee, Kyle, Jarrod, Jana, and Robbie; and four great-grandchildren, Preslee, Conley, Greyson, and Mikka.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, February 13, at 2 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, with Bro. Mike Chain and Bro. Kevin McDaniel officiating followed by interment at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Joe McGilton, Matt New, Landel Hamm, Arron Jennings, Joe Hamm, and Paul Berlin Hamm. Honorary pallbearers are Alford Watts, David Hamm, Leon Hamm and Jack’s grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Community Chapel Baptist Church building fund.
