A man was killed Wednesday when his vehicle was struck by a train near Grady, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary accident report.
Eugene L. Fletcher, 55, of Pine Bluff, was traveling east on Klie Road (at U.S. 65 South) in Jefferson County, near Grady, when the train conductor reportedly saw Fletcher’s vehicle approach the railroad tracks and stop, according to the accident report.
Fletcher’s vehicle was subsequently struck by the oncoming train. The accident occurred at 8:28 a.m. on October 9. The weather was foggy at the time of the accident. The railway is operated by Union Pacific Railroad.
The accident was investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
At least 380 people have died as a result of accidents on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary figures.
