A 28-year-old Crossett man was sentenced last week to 16 years in prison after an Ashley County jury found him guilty of manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the April 1 melee at Pine Street Park where one man was fatally shot and two others were injured.
Derrick Antonio Haynes, one of 18 people charged in the case, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for manslaughter in the death of 22-year-old Lorenzo Miller, of Hamburg, and six years for tampering with physical evidence when he gave the murder weapon to someone and asked that they dispose of it. Haynes received an additional 1-year sentence in the county jail for rioting.
Miller, one of three men who were hit by gunfire in the park riot, died of a gunshot wound to the back. Rasario Ford, Jr., 21, of Crossett, was struck in the leg and Chris Diggs, 21, of Hamburg was struck in the hip. Ford and Diggs were both charged in the case.
Several of those charged in the case have pleaded guilty while others have court dates dates set for early 2013.
Rasario L. Ford, Whitney Marie Stanley, Darus J. Fields, Ray Charles Tucker, Celessa Marie Hart, and Jonathan Wendell Hart, all of Crossett; Christopher M. Robinson, Ashley N. Brock, Hamburg; Phillip D. Brock, Edward Morris, Jr., and Archie Lee Huggins, Jr., all of Hamburg and Kendrion D. Houston, of Wilmot, all have court dates in early 2013.
