An Ashley County man was sentenced this week to life in prison for his actions on New Year’s Eve that resulted in the death of another man.
A jury found Anthony Dewayne Brown, 49, guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 47-year-old Jesse Burton.
According to information released following Brown’s arrest, Brown and Burton reportedly got into an altercation at Parkdale on New Year’s Eve when Brown is alleged to have poured gasoline on Burton, then lit a lighter, burning Burton in the face and neck. Burton was transported to Chicot County Medical Center where he died.
“The manner of death in this case was heinous and completely unwarranted,” Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Frank Spain wrote on his website. “The court sentenced Mr. Brown to life in prison. As I told the jury, he earn that sentence.”
