Margaret H. Chambers, 94, of Hamburg, died on June 15, 2015 at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett.
She graduated from Conway High School and attended the Arkansas State Teachers College, now the University of Central Arkansas. She served as the Memorial Chairman for the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association of North Ashley County since 1961. She also served as chairman for the Arkansas Crippled Children and American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Chambers was the Director of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce for 19 years and was a member of the Prairie Country Club and the Women’s Golf Association. She was a member of the Hamburg First Baptist Church where she was in the Esther Sunday School Class and taught in the junior department. She was an avid reader and she loved her Bridge clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Thomas Hamilton Chambers in 2012 and her parents, John James and Sarah Emerson Hickman.
Mrs. Chambers is survived by a nephew, James I. Hickman of Scotland, Arkansas; a niece, Judith Gates of Michigan; three great-nephews, James Luther Hickman and James Seth Hickman both of Conway and Bryan Matthew Smith of Battle Creek, Michigan and a great-niece, Karlee Michelle Smith of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Funeral services will be held on June 18 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers are David Streeter, Henry Bierbaum, Kenneth Williams, Jimmy Murphy, Mitchel Taylor, Ralph Parker, William Foote and John Hulette.
