Marion Darrough, 60, of Wilmar, passed away on September 4, 2016 at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
She was born on June 20, 1956 to Curtis H. and Joyce M. (Jackson) Allen in Drew County, Arkansas.
Marion graduated from Monticello High School in 1974. She was employed at Burlington Industries of Monticello for many years before beginning a new career at the Bradley County Medical Center in the spring of 1986. She eventually became the hospital’s dietary manager, serving for 30 years.
Marion professed her faith in Jesus Christ early in her adult life at Greater Shady Grove A.M.E. Church in Wilmar. She was also affiliated with Pilgrim Rest A.M.E. Church in Monticello. Marion had a gift from Jesus to sing the gospel and she had the perfect voice for singing it. For many years she served both churches and loved every minute of it. She loved and looked forward to attending the AME conferences every year and supported the activities of her church in many ways.
Marion devoted her life to raising her only child, Kirk Allen, and making sure that he had a solid foundation in Christian principles and an education so he could be a productive Man of God.
Marion leaves to cherish her loving memory, her son, Kirk Allen; her mother, Joyce M. Steen (Chester) of Monticello; four sisters, Curtisteen Stanley of Monticello, Nancy Allen of Wilmar, Carol Givens, (Lonnie SR.) of Gurnee, Illinois, Vicky Scott, (Alvin) of Waukegan, Illinois; a brother, Bobby Allen of North Chicago, Illinois; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Marion also leaves a very special friend, Mr. Andrew Wells, and the entire Wells family. They were her extended family and she loved them as much as she loved her own family.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Greater Shady Grove A.M.E Church with burial following in Wilmar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Friday night at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home.
