Mary Elizabeth Nelson, 76, of Crossett, passed away on June 16, 2016, at the Ashley County Medical Center.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and worked as a secretary for Georgia Pacific for many years. Her numerous hobbies included reading, working crossword puzzles, cooking, playing the piano, and working out but most of all, travelling with her family. She never met a stranger and could beat anyone in a spelling contest.
Mrs. Nelson was born in Louisville, Kentucky on February 17, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Golda Stinson.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joe Kenneth Nelson of Crossett; two daughters, Mary Teresa Nelson and Denise Thornton and fiancé’ Danny Davis of McKinney, Texas; one son, Michael Kenneth Nelson and wife Jeanie of Monroe, Louisiana; one grandson, Johnathan Corey Thornton of McKinney, Texas; one granddaughter, Amanda Neck and husband Tommy of West Monroe, Louisiana; and three great-grandsons, Jaden, Gage, and Beckham Neck also of West Monroe, Lousiana.
A graveside service will be held on June 20 at 10 a.m., at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Union County with Bro. Toby Austin officiating under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roy Patterson, Jim Carter, Lester Avery, Dan Kersey, Dan Dumas, Kelley Lindsey, and Jason Barnett.
Visitation is June 19 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., at Medders Funeral Home, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in North Crossett.
