Mary Ella Carter Martin, 97, of Dumas, passed away on November 24, 2018 in Dumas.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dumas where she was the historian secretary of Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Conway High School and retired as a manager at the Continental Telephone Company.
In 1985, Mrs. Martin was Ding Dong Mama and in 1986, she was the Dumas Woman of the Year. She was the Emeritus Director of the Desha County Museum, one of the founders of Dumas American Legion Axillary, past President of Dumas Business Women, and past President Delta Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to play bridge in her bridge club.
Mrs. Martin was born on November 29, 1920 in Conway to the late William Curtis and Agatha Brewer Carter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ross I. Martin; a brother, Gerald Estes Carter; and a sister, Alline Maxine Quast.
Survivors are a son, Ross Wayne (Jan) Martin of Dumas; a sister, Ardneal Moore of Dumas; three grandchildren, Lynn Parker, Leslie Watts and Sean Hardy; and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 26, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Dumas. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Dr. Tandy Hanson and Rev. Dubs Byers officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Lake Cemetery.
