Mary Idell King Barrett, 86, of Warren, died on May 31, 2019 at Alpine Senior Care Center in Ruston, Louisiana.
She was born on June 6, 1932 in Warren and was the daughter of the late Garrett Hobart (Red) King and Jeffie Euda Singer King.
She was a 1950 graduate of Warren High School and a 1958 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. While at Ouachita she met her late husband, Nathan Monroe Barrett. They married in Warren on August 2, 1953.
After a few years in Little Rock, Fort Smith, England and Fordyce, Mary and Nathan returned to Warren in 1960 where they raised their two daughters, Edie and Laurie, and became co-owners of Barrett-Pirtle Pharmacy until their retirement in 2006.
A member of First Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, church librarian and choir member. She was a member of the Warren Women’s Club, Band Boosters Club and a charter member of the Bradley County Genealogy Society. She researched and wrote Bradley County Obituary Index for Oakland Cemetery 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Monroe Barrett, on January 25, 2007; her brother, Billy Frank King in 2015; her mother, Jeffie Euda Singer King in 1997; and her father, Garrett Hobart (Red) King in 1971.
She is survived by her daughter, Edie Coleman and husband Bruce of Midlothian, Texas; her daughter, Laurie Moore and husband Roger of Ruston, Louisiana; and grandchildren Katie Coleman, Amanda Coleman, Barrett Moore and McKinley Moore.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 2, at 4:30 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Russell Rhoden officiating.
