Mary Jean Matthews, 61, of Monticello, passed away on June 28, 2016 in Pine Bluff.
She was born to the late R.J. and Ruby Robinson-Matthews on November 2, 1954 in Monticello, Arkansas. She departed this life early in the morning of Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
“Sug” graduated from Monticello High School and was later employed by Burlington Industries. She was kindhearted, soft-spoken and loved her family and friends with all her heart.
She accepted Christ and became a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello at an early age and remained there until her health failed and finally went home to be with the Lord.
She is survived by the “Apple of Her Eye” and “The Love of her Life” her daughter, LaToya Yvonne Matthews of St. Louis, Missouri; a sister, Marilyn E. Matthews of Sherwood; four brothers, George (Amanda) Matthews and Larry (Sammye) Matthews, both of Monticello, Raymond Matthews of Pine Bluff and Elvin (Maxine) Matthews of Alta Loma, California; her nieces, Andrea, Natalie, Shalonda, Christy, LaKeisha, and Leslie; nephews, Richard, Anterio, Brandon, Ray, Calvin and Lance; three great-nieces; nine great-nephews; a host of cousins and the Easterwood Family of St. Louis, Missouri.
Visitation will be July 1 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello.
Funeral services will be held on July 2 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
