A McGehee man died Thursday in a single-vehicle accident at the Bayou Bartholomew bridge in Desha County, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary report.
Willie T. Martin, Jr., 55, of McGehee was traveling west on U.S. 278 near the Desha and Drew County line where he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and struck a guard rail.
After striking the guard rail, the vehicle overturned into the water below.
Martin died at the scene of the accident, according to State Police.
The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident.
At least 68 people have died on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary figures.
