Owlfest Cookoff

Registration deadline is September 25

The Desha County Extension Service, sponsored by Hoots BBQ in McGehee, will host a Chicken & Ribs Cook Off at the 2015 McGehee Owlfest on October 3.

The competition is open to to the public. Backyard grillers as well as professional pit masters are invited to come show off their talent grilling talents.

There will be two competition categories, one for pork ribs and one for chicken. The ribs must be slab only, St; Louis or baby back. The chicken must be a fully joined domestic chicken that includes a breast, thigh, wing and drumstick. Contestants are encouraged to decorate their pit area. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded.

Registration deadline is September 25. Registration forms may be picked up at McGehee City Hall, Hoots BBQ, or online at the McGehee Owlfest web site.

Those who are under the age of 20 are encouraged to enter the 4-H Broiler Chicken Cook Off which will be hosted by Desha County 4-H. Youth between the ages of 9 and 19 are invited to compete individually in presentation, taste and style as they grill up chicken. Youth between the ages of 5 and 8 can team up with a parent or guardian to try their hand at grilling as well. The competition is open to 4-H youth in Desha and Drew counties. Not in 4-H?
