Melba Dean James, 87, of Pine Bluff, passed away on August 15, 2014.

Mrs. James, a homemaker, was a member of the Yorktown Free Will Baptist Church in Star City, an excellent cook and an avid gardener. She was happiest when taking care of her family, whether making pies, hand-made quilts or feeding anyone who walked through the door.

She was born July 29, 1927 in Heavener, Okla. and was the daughter of the late Grady and Clemmie Yates Simmons.

Mrs. James is survived by two sons, Michael Lance James and wife Deborah of Monticello and Bryan Kim James of Haskell; a daughter, Jan Alexander and husband Jake of Curtis; two sisters, Barbara Sue Riley of Dumas and Glenda Vonne Moring and husband of Gene of Little Rock; a brother, James Glendon Lambert and wife LaNell of Dumas; a sister-in-law, Lois Simmons Royal of Pine Bluff; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. James was preceded in death by her stepfather, Glen Lambert; her husband of 63 years Willie Fay James; two sons, Terry James and Gerald Lee James, and a brother, Ezelle Simmons.

Visitation is August 18 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Home in Dumas. Funeral services will be held August 19 at 10 a.m. at Griffin Funeral Home with with Rev. Frank Matchett officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Lake Cemetery.
