A junior fishing derby, music in the park, a full moon kayak tour and a levee tour are among the activities on tap this weekend at Cane Creek State Park.

Saturday, May 25

8 a.m.  Jr. Fishing Derby (2 hours) Parents, spend the morning relaxing while watching your junior anglers compete for the highest weight caught during this informal fishing derby. Bring your pole, bait and fishing skills to the visitor center and we will lead the way! Cane Creek State Park will provide you with a pole if you do not have one. Prizes will be awarded. This activity is for children 15 years and younger. Meeting place: Visitor Center

6 p.m.   Music in the Park (2 hours) Bring a lawn chair down to the tent near Pavilion #1 for a relaxing evening of open air music. Saved by Grace returns with friends for a free gospel music concert. Meeting      place: Tent near Pavilion #1

7 p.m.   Full Moon Kayak Tour (2 hours) Full moon tours at Cane Creek State Park take on a special magic as the lake, the surrounding landscape and the sky above are bathed in moonlight. A park interpreter will be your guide, and kayaks, paddles, and lifejackets are provided. Space is limited, and reservations are required. The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12—must be over 10 to paddle alone. Meeting place: Visitor Center

Sunday, April 26

11 a.m.  Levee Tour (2 hours) Join a park interpreter to explore Cane Creek Lake and the surrounding area. On this 2-hour-tour, you’ll get to see the lake from all sides, learn about the construction of the levee and Bayou Bartholomew, and even see an eagle’s nest! Bring your camera. Contact the park to make reservations–space is limited. The cost is $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12. Meeting Place: Visitor Center

1 p.m.  Dutch Oven Dessert & Family Game Night (1 hour) You are invited to a dessert and game night. A Dutch oven demonstration making a dessert will be given by Park Interpreter Don. Plates, napkins and silverware will be providedMeeting place: Visitor Center

Monday, April 27

1:30 p.m.  Frisbee Golf(30 minutes) Frisbee Golf is growing in popularity, and anyone can play. A park interpreter will introduce the basics of this sport, then we’ll all play a few laid-back rounds. A great family activity!  Meeting Place: Visitor Center
